Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School was founded in 1624 on the same site it occupies today. The brick and flint Cloisters, clock tower, and Chapel of Borlase share a street with Mary Shelley’s cottage where she wrote Frankenstein, TS Eliot’s house, and the original site of the Royal Military College now at Sandhurst. Our school roofing services work involved the renewal of the existing plain tile roof coverings with new Sandtoft Humber plain tiles. Associated works included the refurbishment of the clock tower, renewal of fascias, soffits, and rainwater goods, repairs to chimneys, and an extensive overhaul and repair of window frames.
Scaffold working platforms were erected in part of the inner courtyard and over busy access routes leading into the courtyard and surrounding buildings. Scaffold erection was completed during the first few weeks of the school’s summer holiday period to eliminate any risk to pupils, staff, and visitors. Material deliveries and skip exchanges were restricted to certain times of the day and needed careful management through very narrow access routes to our working areas.
