Pitched roof replacement for British Telecom
Pitched roof replacement in Oxfordshire
Uffington Telephone Exchange is located within a conservation area and is close to National Trust land. As a result, planning authority approval was a key consideration for CBRE and British Telecom when selecting a suitable material for the pitched roof replacement covering. Marley Eternit profiled cement fibre sheets and built-up felt were both considered, but in keeping with the conservation status of the area, treated Western Red Cedar Shingle roof tiles were selected – a like-for-like replacement. Temporary protection measures had to be put in place to ensure no water ingress was encountered during the works. Large areas of the existing roof deck had rotted and were replaced, and other minor repairs were carried out to the timber roof structure supporting the decking. New treated battens were installed, and the new cedar shingles fixed with corrosion resistant stainless-steel ring shank nails. The rainwater goods were replaced and internal patch repairs to finishes and surfaces affected by previous water ingress.
