Meet Henry Comer – Project Manager at Acclaim Contracts
This week, we’re excited to shine the spotlight on Henry, our dedicated Project Manager. His energy and commitment help drive our success, and we’re lucky to have him. We sat down with Henry to chat about his impact at work and what he enjoys outside the office.
How long have you worked for Acclaim, why are you still here?
“I have been working at Acclaim for just over 10 years now. I would say the reason I am still here is because I have been able to develop successfully over the years. Having moved up from being on-site to the position I am in now, it’s been great to stay at Acclaim and continue advancing throughout the business, absorbing knowledge and learning. Additionally, the business has taken good care of me, investing in my growth over the years with opportunities and training.”
What’s the thing you’d say you enjoy most about your job?
“I would say the thing I enjoy most about my job is the challenging work dynamic. Every day is different, which makes it exciting. I also enjoy getting out on-site and being able to talk to the whole team.”
How do you ensure your team runs so smoothly?
“Communication! Communication is key to great teamwork, especially on a busy site.”
What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?
“The best piece of advice I’ve received is to reframe your mindset. Instead of asking, ‘Why is this happening to me?’ ask yourself, ‘What is this teaching me?’ The way you think about obstacles influences how you handle them.”
What’s the best advice you’d give someone new to the team?
“If I were to give a new team member some advice, it would be to ask plenty of questions and always seek help when needed. I’m over 10 years into my career, and I still ask questions every day – whether it’s something small or a more complex issue that requires input from our MD. Asking questions encourages learning and not being afraid to ask for help when needed are, in my opinion, the best pieces of advice I would give to someone new.”
What’s something you do for fun in your spare-time?
“In my spare time, I enjoy going on fun, family days out over the weekend with my partner and son. I’m also a keen golfer and love playing whenever I get the chance. Aside from that, I enjoy walking my dogs.”
Do you have a favourite place to travel to, or a dream vacation spot?
“I would probably say the Balearic Islands, mainly Ibiza. Everyone thinks it’s a party island, but there are so many beautiful beaches where you can switch off and relax.”
What is your biggest pet peeve?
“People who have a lack of social awareness.”
If you could instantly learn any new skill, what would it be?
“If I could learn something instantly, it would be to become multilingual.”
If you could have an unlimited supply of one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
“This is a good question and one I find hard to answer. If I had to choose, it would probably be money. You can’t go wrong with an unlimited supply of money, and if that wasn’t an option, then an unlimited supply of time.”
What’s a movie or show that you can watch repeatedly without getting tired of it?
“It would be Family Guy. The show never fails to make me laugh with its ridiculously silly jokes and references throughout.”
