Client:

W. S. Atkins - Essex County Council

Roofing Products:

Cold Fusion Bonded Built-Up Roof System

Area:

1,000 m2

Description:

St. Andrews Junior School was constructed using ‘Durox' concrete panels. The school's hall roof had originally been waterproofed using a felt system. The re-waterproofing of the hall roof had been scheduled for the school holidays. However, there was a considerable number of rooflights on the roof, leading to a large degree of detailing and the amount of work required to raise and replace all of the rooflights had led to concerns that the project would run into term time. Furthermore, the budget was not sufficient to allow for the whole roof to be completed so the works needed to be phased over two years.

A Cold Fusion Bonded Built-Up Roof System from Liquid Plastics was specified, which included 100mm Decotherm insulation and a Decothane Gamma 20 waterproof ‘cap sheet'. The full system is completely cold applied and once installed is guaranteed to last for at least 20 years before first maintenance is required.

The contract for the work could be split into two phases and tendered separately over two years. Potentially two separate contractors could win the phases however the client would still have one guarantee covering materials and labour under the Liquid Plastics' Quality Assured Contractor programme. System benefits include the Decothane ‘cap sheet', which is liquid applied making detail work quick and easy, and if works did run into term-time there would be no concerns regarding hot works or the risk of fire as the full system utilises zero flame, zero heat technology.
