Description:
The prime objective for this British Telecom project was to complete the entire programme of works with minimal disruption to the day-to-day running of the exchange and minimal inconvenience to BT employees and members of the public. For operational reasons, it was also critical to complete the project within the agreed 8 week programme.
Protecting the building against the effects of weather was also of paramount importance given the sensitive telecommunications equipment housed in the exchange. For this reason, a temporary roof was erected in addition to the usual access scaffolding. Other critical works included the removal of asbestos panels under strictly controlled conditions and deep clean to extensive areas of cladding.
A Bauder ‘Total Roof System' including a tapered insulation scheme was installed with a 20 Year Guarantee. Finishing touches included a permanent free-standing handrail together with a new lightning protection system. The project was incident free and delivered to British Telecom on the agreed date and with no snags. The Health and Safety File and the Operating and Maintenance Manual were prepared as the works progressed and presented in both hard copy and CD.
